What is a Post? What is a Page? Print

  • 0

While editing or adding a post or page has a similar look, they have some distinct differences and purposes although as time has gone along, the line has blurred slightly.

A page is a single entity of content. For example, About Us or Terms and Conditions.

A post is a piece of content that can be viewed as a single entity or as part of a group of content for a page.

  • Pages have a hierarchy. Posts do not.
  • Posts have taxonomies called category and tags. This allows you, for example, to group posts by news, or articles, maybe even featured articles. Pages do not have this.

Just to throw more petrol on the fire, there are also content pieces called custom post types, like Events or Testimonials. These are essentially posts in a different form.
